Sapphire announces LED Mini Projector 101
Sapphire is best known for its graphics cards, so it's something of a surprise that the firm has jumped into the displays market with a pico projector. The Mini Projector 101 is much like others we've seen from Optoma and Aiptek, using a battery-powered LED lamp to cast an image from seven to 65 inches on a suitable surface. It will fit in your pocket and take a video input from any PC or laptop, digital camera or with an adapter to iPod and iPhone. Based on multi-chip LED technology, the lamp in the Mini Projector is rated at 14 lumens (so will need to be used in darkened room) and should last for 20,000 hours. Its 640 x 480 resolution is reasonable, although it's a shame there's been no progress on this front in well over a year since the first pico projectors emerged in early 2009. Sapphire claims that the battery will last over two hours on a single charge, but you can also use the mains adapter for epic movies. A mini tripod is also bundled along with cables for VGA, composite video and - thoughtfully - an approved iPod / iPhone adapter. However, unlike Aiptek's Pocket Cinema V10, the Sapphire has no built-in media player. No details of pricing or availability have been announced, but we expect it to cost between £250 and £350 and we'll bring you a full review as soon as we get a review model. Author: Jim Martin

New Mini Projector launched by Sapphire
Another new solution has been released for iPhone and iPod users who want to be able to expand photos and videos through a projector onto a flat surface. Sapphire Technologies has launched a new mini projector, which is usable with an iPhone and with any PC or video camera. The Mini Projector 101, transforms images from these devices into projections of up to 65 inches across. As a result, this device is a must for anyone looking for a compact, lightweight solution to enable them to show off their photographs and videos. The projector weighs just 103 grams and is powered in a similar way to high-brightness torches and bike lights. Sapphire says this multi-chip LED technology will power the device for as long as 20,0000 hours. The device’s built-in battery will last for two hours before it needs recharging and it operates with 14 lumens of brightness. The quality of the output at 640x480 is of high quality, whether it is an image or a video that is being projected. The projector comes complete with a iPhone/iPod adapter, a charger, a tripod, cables for VGA and composite video.

Sapphire launches iPhone-compatible mini-projector
In a marked departure from the usual graphics card and motherboard releases associated with Sapphire Technologies, the firm has launched a mini-projector that takes the output from any PC, video camera and iPhone and expands it to 65 inches across. The Mini Projector 101, pictured below, weighs 103g and is powered by multi-chip LED technology - similar to high-brightness flashlights and bike lights - that, Sapphire reckons, is good for 20,000 hours of use. Rated at 14 lumens and offering 'good' image quality on a projected 640x480 image or video, the 101 has a built-in battery that should last two hours on a single charge. The $299 (£240) projector ships with a charger, tripod, cables for VGA, composite video and an iPhone/iPod adapter, too. Full specifications here. Here's our Nick talking to Sapphire's Bill Donnelly about the Mini Projector 101 at last month's CeBIT show.
